The year of the quilt

I'm going to make quilts this year. I haven't made actual quilts for a long long time. They will be lap quilts or twin bed size and very very simple. I dislike matching corners (thus the crazy quilts in the past).

Pictured is the beginnings of a coin quilt. I am sewing strips together that are 2 1/4" X 15", then will cut it into thirds (5" strips) for the coin stacks. I picked out what I could of brown/pink/red tones from my stash.

I also started on a more primitive looking modified coin quilt from way old scrap stash. It is UGLY!!!! I like the pinks better!

But this is my resolution for 2010... MAKE QUILTS.

  1. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I cant wait to see the end results!! I love doing this....only thing I do different is the scraps are usually someone elses stashes so they are not consitent in any measurements..so i just sew strips till I can begin cutting into smaller square units...AWESOME cat I love the colors....

Yep..consider it a done deal if you make it to Minnesota this year sometime please let me know ahead of time and I will make sure I come in and meet you! I knew this was gonna be an awesome year!

Take care and stay warm and happy sewing!

  3. I can't wait to see your quilt when it's finished! (May I ask: I am considering buying an inexpensive sewing machine so that I can do some crafting on it. Do you know if a cheap ($90) Beginner's Singer machine would sew through paper & quilting fabric? Thanks!) ~Kathy

  10. Funny thing, I've decided to do the same thing, only I have a few UFOs that need attention first. Looks like your coin quilt is a great pattern for stash-busting!

  12. I do love coin quilts! I am so with you on making more quilts! I have that big ol quilting machine and need to make use of it and can't really get moving until some quilts get pieced. I hope you make tons of progress and are happy with each stitch. xo Pam
