One house quilt

I don't know... just felt like making a one house quilt.
Looks kinda lonely doesn't it. :)
I'll put together a back and quilt it up, baby quilt size.
It started with putting together some funky house blocks for a
blog neighborhood party.
I normally don't get involved in anything, ANYTHING, but I have this week off work...
and got surfing the web... and... well it looked like fun.

Pojagi inspiration for window panel

Here is my first experiment with a pojagi inspired piece. It will be a window cover on a long narrow window by a stairwell in my son's apartment. I am delighted in the way it looks like stained glass. The technique is simply joining pieces with flat-felled seams (like the inside seam on your Levi's).  Pojagi, also called bojagi, originates as a Korean art used for wrapping cloths. I found a great tutorial here at The Silly BooDilly blog. The flat-felled seams are her tutorial #2 on the post.

Have a happy creative weekend!

Boro quilt

"Boro" meaning rags, this wall hanging was made in the inspiration of the Japanese Boro cloth.
It has old work shirts, bits of kimonos, some shibori, some batik.
It was difficult to photograph. Measures 14X44 inches, and is currently pinned at the end of my hallway.

I would like to make another one, I enjoyed the patchwork technique, but am also anxious to start on a form of patchwork called "pojagi".  More later...

Game of Thrones Quilt

Anybody watch The Game of Thrones series (HBO) or reading the books?
I'm reading, and did get to see season 1 on DVDs, anxiously awaiting season 2.
While waiting... I finished up the medieval quilt with a dragon emblem.

It's in my etsy shop, hoping some G of T fan will want to wrap up in it.

Snow day and Boro inspiration

I have dogs that don't like snow.
It was a sad day for them.

After making 2 quilt tops of mens shirt fabric, I read up on what may be the earliest re-purposed mens shirts into utilitarian quilts... the Japanese Boro quilts. If you get a chance google "Japanese Boro" and look at the images. Cool stuff.  Today I did my take from the inspiration.

It measures 14 X 23 inches, has shirt fabric, and bits of kimono fabric.  I started with hand stitching the patches upon patches, then machine stitched a grid on top. Click on pic to enlarge.

I was also at the craft fair today. Forgot to take pictures of my area... but I have sold 1 quilt and a few small items. I have learned that at church craft fairs the big sellers are small inexpensive items... not exactly what I have there!

Happy Weekend.

Project: Men's dress shirt quilt

1. Bought 6 cotton button down shirts from 2nd hand store,
brought them home and washed them.
 2. Removed buttons and cut out fabric pieces.
 3. Started sewing back together.
4. Hopefully will stay on task and show you more later!
Happy Friday.

5. Adding a picture... part way done. I'm doing a freeform style patchwork.
6. The finished quilt top.
About 50" X 70".

Gold and black...continued

Thanks for your input Kathy and Cathy!
I left out the white, but added just a touch.
It's a cross between a dragon and a fleur de lis, I drew it up and traced it onto heat fuse & ironed it onto the white, cut, cut, snip, then onto the black block...
I think it adds just a touch that tags the quilt as being fit for medieval decor.

Next to find the perfect backing material then on to the quilting frame.

Contrast

Which one? I'm trying to decide if the golds and blacks need some contrast with an off white.

If you visit, leave me a comment with your opinion.

Comfort quilts

Yesterday I took this little stack of 6 quilts to a women's shelter in town. They have 28 total beds, including cribs, so this is such a small dent in a need.

Getting Ready...

I am staging. Getting ready for a craft fair at a church the first week of Nov.
It is a big event with hundreds of vendors, all handmade things!

I borrowed a bakers rack for display, and will have a 6 foot table. My space will be 8ft by 5ft. I will need to move the quilts on the lower rack to the table to try and get them accessible for people.
I have  been sewing hard to get ready, and will include the quilts in my etsy shop. I have 2 quilts to finish (on the chair) and will have a total of 11 quilts. Lots of mug rugs, coasters, table runners, some patchwork scarves, quilted scarves, and some JOY garland.
A girlfriend will put in some terrific crocheted afghans also.
I'll post a picture of the real thing in November!

Transformation Quilt

This is the quilt that was on the quilting frame 2 posts back.
I finished up the binding last night and washed it this morning.
I'm calling it the "Transformation Quilt",
because it is full of butterflies and positive affirmation words.
I have a passion to make quilts with positive words stitched in.  To embrace a wounded soul or to encourage self esteem.  Whether it is to help a cancer patient thru the process or to help the verbally abused overcome, it is simply to comfort a single heart and lift a single burden. That is my dream.
Have a blessed weekend.

Quilted table runners

Fun making table runner quilts. Much more instant gratification than with a full quilt.

They are listed in my etsy shop.

I have a little more sew time this weekend...better go.
