Baby Quilt finishes

This is a baby quilt finish. The top is improv log cabin in orange, aqua, neutrals. Backed with minky with little owls on it.  It came out wonderful soft.  Little problem is I have tiny specks of black that carried up from the bottom with the needle as it would go thru the black parts on the owl. I don't think it was a tension problem because my tension was good. ???

A second baby quilt, I quilted in the same concentric loops, but with a fuzzy white minky backing. It shows off the quilting more.

That's it for the weekend. I better decorate the Christmas tree!

Quilt finishes

These are quilt finishes after an upgrade to my quilting machine. For years I have quilted with my Juki on a Grace frame, now I'm using an Avante 18 on it's frame from Handiquilter.  I've been finishing up some tops that have been sitting for a long while, plus making new.

1. Green Cross quilt. Made just because.
 2. Crown Royal quilt.  Made for a nephew to gift his father-in-law.
 3. Wintry stars.  Made with fabric gifted to me. Will gift at Christmas.
 4. Alabama Crimson Red quilt. Made for a friend to gift to his wife.
 5. Small squares of all scraps.  Gifted to son's girlfriend.
6. Improv baby quilt. Just mellowing out with lighter colors.

That's the stack. I still have tops to quilt, and squares to make tops out of, and ideas to materialize.

Quilt finishes

1.  Flying Geese quilt, it's a keeper, matches my living room. It is big and cuddly!

2. Women's healing quilt with Bible words stitched in. In Etsy shop.

  3.  Men's healing quilt with positive affirmation words stitched in. In Etsy shop.

Next... working on a plus quilt, and about 25 other... :)
I think I'm addicted.

Pink Quilt

It's not only July already, but nearing the end of July.
I, again, am guilty of ignoring my blog. Much due to a steady summer and some due to the fact that I just don't know how to work pictures between the iPhone and mac anymore! These ones I took and emailed to myself and etc.  These are of a quilt for a one year old girl, whom I haven't met yet, but she is going to have to have her leg amputated towards the end of August. She is the child of a friend of one of my sons. It touched my heart, so of course - a quilt was made.

Just a note, lets be thankful for all we have and all that modern medicine can do.

UPDATE

Here is the sweetie with her quilt. She was blessed to only loose her ankle and foot, not further up. Precious baby.

Wonky Cross Quilt

I need a quilt for a 13year old young man. I think he might like this.

So...fingers crossed that he likes wonky crosses and feels the love.

Curved piecing

These have been on my mind and on my sewing machine.
The block size (1 wheel) is 12 inches, which helps make that curve a bit easier to sew than on a smaller block. They are still more time consuming than I am used to with my "want it now" type of quilt making. :)  But I like these, and will make more...

There is a pattern called "Steam Punk Pattern" by Jen Kingwell Designs, the square comes out about 9.25" I believe and the outer ring is thinner. There have been a lot of awesome Steampunk blocks on Instagram. It is a really cool modern design. I have not done the research to see similar designs in older quilts, but I can't think of any. I have seen this with straight lines and no circles in the center.

Quilting has changed. I have never bought a quilt pattern, nor have I ever sold a quilt pattern. My day job is a Designer / drafter.  I know how to use AutoCAD, and can draw up a design very quickly.  My point... is that quilting has changed in that now so many people are selling patterns (and that is great with the big surge of new quilters), but that makes me question copyrights.  I think it is acceptable to still draw up ones own pattern to use.

At any rate. Love this design, and would love it in a smaller block if I had the patience. :)

The Colorful Quilt

I don't remember how long ago I made this bright quilt top, but was able to get it on the frame and quilted up last week, then the binding done yesterday evening.  It has a wonderfully soft minky back.  I still need to measure the quilt and get a full picture, then list it in the shop. I can imagine this would be a pretty happy spot in a girls room!

This is at Locomotive Springs, it is at the northwest end of the Great Salt Lake.

This last photo was "Elephant Arch" just a couple miles from the Springs.

Happy Easter.

Signs of Spring

It is a sign of Spring that I don't have much to post on quilting. (Just a pile of string pieced 7" squares)
It is a sign of Spring that at the end of the day I have more dirt on me than I have threads.
It has been a wonderful Spring weekend, including a motorcycle ride, beautiful weather, digging weeds...
Cheers to Spring!!

Bible Precept Quilt

This weekend I finished up a Bible Precept Quilt with 22 phrases stitched into it. I used 4" scraps that I'd been saving from many projects, and joined them together with the fabric from Ikea with the birds and nature print on white, and with yellow little squares and yellow binding. It's a happy quilt!

broken window quilt

Here's what I'm working on. The center is finished and I need to sew the outer area together and on. It is scraps. It reminds me of a broken window. Maybe a dirty window with two Jacks looking out!  :)

Lake Powell Valentines Day

I love Lake Powell. Red Rock and water. It is a reservoir on the Colorado River, is in both Utah and Arizona.  Manificient walls of rock and unique shapes. It is a hot vacation spot in the summer time when the water is bathtub warm. We hadn't been there for over 15 years and thought an off season trip would be nice. It was. Peaceful and quiet solitude.

Woodsy Valentine Quilt

Finished this quilt up today... it was too big to hang on the fence and see the whole thing.  When I laid it on the grass to get a picture, Jackie came running!

The picture doesn't show clearly, but the black and white is pinecones (November Pine by Alexander Henry). The red is Kona Rich Red. It's a big quilt - 70X82.

Happy Weekend!

In the sky, on the wall, and on the frame.

This is last nights glorious sunset!
Today I have Flying Geese quilt rows on the wall.
And on the frame to be quilted today...
Have I said lately how much I enjoy weekends???

Woman of Faith Quilt

This was a fun quick quilt, I started playing with the strips of dark patches, then thought they would look good paired with light low volume strips...  made all the blocks, then stitched in the words (all positive affirmations), sewed the blocks together, paired it with the backing...etc etc and a quilt! Listed it in my shop yesterday and it sold! Happy Dance.
