Tomatillo Lanterns

This is my first year to grow Tomatillos.
I didn't know they were going to be humongous plants,
somehow I had the idea they were ground cover...
Didn't do my research!
What I've learned is they grow big
and they grow zillions of yellow blossoms
then around the blossom a lantern grows.
The lantern is empty at first
then starts to fill with the fruit.
Here is a shot of the plants.
I did research just enough (the worker at the nursery told me)
to know you need to plant 2 plants for pollination.
And below, the cherry tom and a Jack bomb.

Happy growing to all!

My daughter Jenny grows these in her garden. I haven't tried them. I am not sure that I have ate one yet, I don't think so. They are really fun to look at. I love your garden, it is really pretty.
I am so glad you liked my little cottage...I have enjoyed making them.
Have a very yummmie harvest!!Hugs, Mary

Your garden looks wonderful, Cat! Ours is a disaster this year except for the fruit (apricots, strawberries and soon grapes). We’ll re-think things for next year. Hugs, Cathy

Those things are HUGE! LOL. They look wonderful. I love tomatillos.

Good think you have the Jack pack to watch over them for you :-)

These are all new to me, but I like the looks of them.
It is a good thing your plants are up off the ground, or the "garden keepers" might do some digging.
Happy harvest.

That's really interesting. I didn't know they grew this way. How cool is that! Maybe, I'll have to try some next year.

Fun! This has been a really bad tomato year here, so I'm glad someone has a bumper crop. Are these good for salsa?

Wow, that's some beautiful garden! Ours is pathetic this year, except for the cucumbers which are really delicious! What does a tomatillo taste like? They are very pretty plants, I bet they taste yummy! I love seeing your cute little doggies in your photos! xo Paulette
