Wishing...

Remember when you were little and you were sick... and you got feeling better and wanted to go out and play... but you couldn't yet...
We are at that stage with Annie.
The floors are starting to be littered with doggie toys again and Annie gives a "let's play" plea.
She longs to go outside and run...
The next 2 weeks will be hard for her to understand why we are such sticks in the mud with her!

Annie Update & Etc...

I told Miss Sleepy head that bloggers are inquiring on how she is doing....
Hey Annie... Wake UP!
Come On Pumpkin....sit up... you can do it.... that's it... one eye at a time...
There you are... up and awake and saying HI!
She is doing well, has not had any of the bad symptoms of excessive coughing or throwing up or etc, just sleepy sleepy sleepy... and that is good; because she has four more weeks of total rest to go.
I've been stitching while I sit with Annie...

Annie Update

Annie is tired of lying around, but too tired to do much about it. She has been easy to keep calm. Here she is with her favorite toy sent to her when she was younger by her Auntie Sandy.

Our time schedule from here on out is rest, rest, rest, then in October she goes in for one more injection. In December she gets retested for Heartworm. If the test is negative she can start on Heartgard.

I think by next Spring she will be a healthy rowdy JRT and maybe it’ll be time for a puppy to keep her company… (Don’t tell Jet my cat that!)

Annie's Home!

Sweet Annie is home recuperating.
She will spend a lot of time in her kennel and a lot of time on our laps :)
We will give her med for pain for 15 days, and lots of lovin.
She will live this lifestyle for 6 weeks, then a gradual rehab to rebuild her heart and lungs.
Thank you to all for your caring hearts.

Bug Grubber

Bug Grubber is one of Annie's nick-names. She gets it from chasing and eating butterflies, grasshoppers, spiders... etc, anything that moves she chases, and if it's edible... she does that too.

It's taken a toll on her though. That and some nasty mosquito. Annie has tested positive for heartworm disease (from a mosquito bite), and possibly for other parasites (from eating so many bugs). Not to mention low thyroid levels.

The reason I'm posting this isn't for sympathy, but to help any dog owner to be a little more aware of heartworm than I was. I thought it was very rare in Utah if at all since we get such a good winter kill - freezing cold temps... I was wrong and I should of had Annie protected with a product called "Heartgard" which you give the dog once a month.

We are going to proceed with a treatment for heartworm this coming week. It involves injections into the lower back muscles and can be quite painful. Recovery for Annie will involve 6 weeks of being kenneled (at home) to minimize embolism risks and lung problems, and taken outside on a leash only. No running, jumping, playing... (We're talking a Jack Russell Terrier here!)

So... Prayers for Annie please, and if you have a dog, please ask your vet about Heartgard.

Whew what a week!

Annie has had a busy week. She is free from her kennel while we work and now has a fully fenced acre and a doggie door into the garage for a daytime bed. She must be totally enjoying her new found freedom. She socializes at the fence with the neighbor dogs and chases birds and watches for cats. She used to love to play when we got home, but now she is too tired.

Nothin' Much...

Nothing much going on!
Not a thing to post....
So here is Annie chewing on an old tennis ball that she proudly skinned of it's old green fur. Mighty hunter that she is...
Hasn't her hair got long!

Weird Annie

Cute, fluffy, but also... WEIRD.Annie had a good day. First day ever to end up in the canal/ditch out back - burrrr! Don't know if she fell in or ventured in, but she came out one wiggly happy running dog! It's not deep or fast flowing - but I'm sure it's cold right now. This picture was AFTER her evening shower, after the exploring day. Clean again!
[I don't know where her 4th leg is in this picture...]

Fluffy Annie

Miss Annie just had a bath and is all fluffy.
I think she looks like a miniature sheepdog not a Jack Russell Terrier!

How Deep is it?

I have been asked by many, "Just how deep is the snow?"
In fact, my friend's son asked me that.
Jacob, here is Annie pointing her nose at how deep it is.
Click on the picture for a better look.
Jacob's MOM is the only person other than family that I have known (and kept in touch with) for most my life. My family moved a lot when I was growing up and I didn't form any other lasting friendships. My friend just barely started a blog, where she has so far shared her remodeling woes and victories. She has yet to get a camera to get us a visual, but I'm sure that will happen soon. Her blog is Nanabuzlife, stop by and say Welcome if you get a chance.
Meanwhile, I'm hoping to train Annie like little Eddie on Fraiser... and got her to point her nose at the snow measurement. Just kidding, it was totally coincidental. I do think Eddie is adorable though. Oh, I couldn't find a normal ruler and since I'm not using this one lately... (ahem...)
Smiles to all.

Sleddin' Annie

This picture is a bit dark, but it's 5:00 pm, after work... and my hubby is doing a test drive on my sled that he just got all fixed up. :) Isn't it pretty...
He decided to take Annie for a ride... look at her all hunkered down... her first motor ride other than the car.
She bailed at the back of the property!
I picked her up and held her on the next go round. She sat zipped in my coat for a little more comfort. She was still pretty wiggy... We don't know yet if we will make a motor-head out of her or not. Blue was a complete motor-head, "I wanna go I wanna go".
Annie get's carsick! Everytime I take her for a ride she pukes, I was hoping she would outgrow it and want to go... we have yet to see that day.
I don't know if she will be the motorcycle ridin' Jack Russel that Blue was, but either way we will love her just the same. We're just presenting her with opportunities to see if she likes them or not at this point. As far as snowmobiling goes... she did better on the 2nd round, and she hasn't lost her cookies yet.

Annie got Mail!

A package came in the mail to "Annie"!
It was sent by a very nice lady who makes doggie sweaters and
other crochet item and sells them on etsy.
Here is a link to her shop: Crochet Cabin
She also has Jack Russell Terriers.
Here is Annie modeling her new sweater.
CUTE!!!
It slips over the neck and has a buttoning strap that goes under the chest.
Very easy to put on and Annie seems to like it a lot.
It has an adorable hood on it too.
Annie thought she try it out for a roll in the snow.
Yep.... kept very warm!

Now it's time to go try on Santa's hat.

The Little Pill

THE LITTLE PILL
I needed something for depression when Blue died.
I got this little pill.

At first when I took it, it had reverse effects.
I missed Blue worse.
Then it sent me on an emotional roller-coaster.
I almost took it back.
But then I had a break-thru and realized she wouldn't "replace" Blue but that I would love her for her own personality and ... yes she is a little joy.
She is a 4 month old Jack Russell with long legs and rough coat.
We named her ANNIE.

Bright Angel

Until a person has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.
~Anatole France.
Blue went to play ball with the angels yesterday. He had a very aggressive cancer that was shutting him down and we had to say goodbye.

Blue had a wonderful life. He went on countless motorcycle trips, must of logged tens of thousands of miles. Always up for a new adventure. The picture shown is one of my favorite pictures of him; it was by the Grand Canyon at a place called “Bright Angel Fault”. Blue also loved to boat; we always had to keep an eye on him because he would drop his ball in the water for us to fetch. Many times we had to circle around with the fish net to capture the ball. Blue also loved to hike and explore and poke his head into every crevice and notch. He explored the Redwoods of California and the Red rocks of Southern Utah, plus many many other places.

He was always inventing new games to play around the house. You would never see him without a ball in his mouth, the ball even muffled his bark.

I will miss him dearly.

Ahhhh!

Flaming Gorge
Below is an Osprey bird with the catch of the day.

I could, and did, spend hours looking at the rocks.

I am amazed at the artwork of nature.

It was a very relaxing weekend.

After all... it's a dog's life.

Around Here!

Here's a little picture tour of what's going on around here:
A very classic & artistic old motorcycle with a flat front tire and very much in need sits by the shop. I really like it's form and think it would be great renovated!
Click on picture for tremendous rust detail.
And here is my motorcycle (A Harley Dynaglide) sitting IN the shop awaiting a new innertube in it's back tire. I had a flat on the way to work yesterday, which is a different experience on a motorcycle! Luckily I was only going about 30 or 35 mph.
Click on picture and you can actually find the nail in the tire.
This is Jet ready to go into the cool house for her day nap.
And Blue enjoying the summer heat and country air.

And another week of blooms out front.

Isn't life great.
